Is tooth extraction a painful procedure?

Since tooth extraction is usually performed under local anesthesia, no pain is felt during the procedure. However, mild pain, swelling and discomfort are normal after the procedure. Pain after tooth extraction can usually be controlled with painkillers and certain care instructions.
